The transition in colour was there from the start but with some horn the deeper you sand the lighter the colour. The pivot end is somewhat tapered & the brown banding was more prominent prior to the extra sanding.. Maybe some chemical change as the older layers grow out.

Another beautiful Razor.
Iv'e made a pen out of horn and can appreciate the amount of work that
must of went into getting that smooth a finish on it.
Do you do much powered sanding or is it mostly by hand.

Thanx Greg. I do early stages & chamfers on the belt sander 60, 80 & 120 grit then by hand up to 2000 grit then some power buffing then
