Thumbs up Wade & Butcher Obie-nized Wedge

This is Obie's W&B, 6/8 wedge that definitely saw some use in its life. Not only was it layered with a thick skin of pitting, patina, rust,.. the grind was completely gone. There was an extreme amount wear towards the spine which resulted in both wedge sides to be round instead of flat. It looked like a reverse water drop when looked at straight from the toe side. In order to hone this baby one had to probably use over a dozen layers of tape if not more.

Since no greaseless in the world would have solved this problem I decided to re-grind this puppy. I also wanted to stay as close to the original grind so I used my 10" wheel which turned out to be perfect for this razor. It's back to being a near wedge. It wasn't an easy task as those tapered and beveled spines are easy to mess up. One wrong move with the grinder one can easily screw up one of those bevels. To top it off the blade had a nice smile to it. In the end it turned out immaculate.

Scales are black G10 with a red G10 tapered wedge and are a close copy of the originals. Nickel Silver pins and SS washers.

    Have a great WK.

Amazing Max, it's nice that after all the work you were able to keep the near wedge and save the edge. Great work. Obie is a lucky man

    My dear Max:

I am bedazzled by the beauty you created out of a ghost. I'm in awe. Throw a wallop of shock in there, too. Is this smoke coming out of my head? This is stunning. Good heavens, how can anybody have so much talent? Such incredible skill? I envy you.

When I bought the razor at a flea market, I knew I was taking a chance. Yet as I was buying it — and I mean this — I thought of only one name: Max. I kept telling myself Max will make a Greta Garbo out of this Phyllis Diller. And you have.

The transformation is difficult to comprehend. Is this really the same Wade & Butcher? I asked myself that the first few times I viewed the razor tonight. Is this really the same Wade & Butcher I sent to my friend Max to give it life? Then slowly reality dawned on me, for I expected nothing less than glorious workmanship.

This razor is magnificent. My Wade & Butcher is magnificent.

Thank you, Max. If you will permit me, my friend, I will name my Wade & Butcher The Max.

Now that's a very vivid juxtaposition!

Great work as usual, Max, keep up the good work.
