Thread: Daisy's Coming out Party

This beautiful old blade was made by Union Cutlery. I'm guessing in the latter part of the 1800s. I'm guessing she was a pretty good razor until someone got tired of her and just put her away somewhere to tarnish up and rot away. She's had a face lift and and she's sporting new custom scales made of Black Limba. I also gave her an escort and he's got a matching Black Limba handle and silver tip badger hair. They can't go to the ball without a ride so I'm giving them a ride in simple Spanish Cedar with some brass accents. I did custom fit the upholstery for them and did it in green velvet.

Thank you, I'm going to do one more matching set with buffalo horn on a Wade and Butcher Bow Razor. I'm going to try to make a stand for the razor and brush out of horn as well. We'll see how that mess comes out. lol

well done and i like the scales. what is the width of each side? did you use the original spacers?

The width of the scales at their widest point is 7/8 inch. The thickness is 1/8 inch and I cheated, I cut a blank from turning block of black Limba and put it through my thickness planer. The wedge is cocobolo and only very slightly wider than the orginal. The scales were shaped on a belt sander and the brush handle was at first rounded on a bench sander and then shaped using different size sanding drums attached to a drill.

wow you belt sanded vs a scroll saw, you must have pushed through some grit stages to, again well done.
