4/8 Erik Anton Berg in ivory paper micarta

Hi all just thought I would share my latest little restore - a 4/8 E.A. Berg that I hand sanded and dressed in ivory paper micarta with a black horn wedge, NiAg pins and tiny SS washers.

I brought the micarta with Swedish steel in mind, as the colour is obviously a good match for vintage Eskilsuna ivory and horn. I found it nice and easy to shape, though it did start to warp once I reduced the thickness right down (to approx 1.5 mm). I also had some dificulties getting a nice finish on it, as it doesnt take a polish very well. It tends to trap the 'black' residue that comes off of the pins and blade when polished too. Does anyone clearcoat their micarta to prevent this transfer?

Fantasict restore, I personally like these smaller razors, they dont come up for sale very often, I myself have a Gottlieb Hammesfahr Soligen Foche in a 4/8, but i'm always on the look out for these smaller razors to restore.

That's really, really nice. I'm really liking Swedish razors at the moment, Mikael got me sucked in with a Klas Törnblom and then REALLY sucked me in with with a E A Berg in need of restore (pretty similar to yours).

Ummmm, this question is probably a bit 'up front' (but hey, I'm Australian, we're supposed to be 'up front') but can I ask what your plans are with this razor? Hmmmmmm? Just wondering if I need to check the classifieds every five minutes from now on and call in sick for the next week....

Can I ask you where you sourced your micarta from?
I have only found some on knife hobby sites. Its a beauty by the way gorgeous looking razor. Great job.

Thanks mate. I brought some from Masecraft in the USA. They will happily ship around the world just be aware that customs may ping you if you include any natural products like horn in your order. Cheers!

That is a very nice looking razor. Nice clean lines and the micarta is a great fit with that blade. Excellent job.
