    Default Hamburg Ring in Micarta

13/16 Hamburg Ring, Extra Hollow Solingen Silver Steel.

I forgot to take a before shot, but the only thing I have done to the blade is a little polish, the original scales was plane black plastic.

Scales and wedge are made of Burgundy linen micarta, brass pins and washers, I'm quite happy how it turned out

You should be proud. It finished beautifully and those razors are superb shavers.

Nicely done. An elegant modern look to those scales.

    Hey Zephyr

Can I ask you what series of sanding did you do on the scales? I am currently trying to make my first pair using black linen micarta and was wondering what you did. They look great!!

I wanted the scales a little thinner than the sheet they where cut from so first I sanded off ~1mm with a belt sander on each scale to get the thickness I wanted.
    From there I hand sanded using 320 - 600 - 800 - 1200 - 2000 wet/dry sanding paper before finishing with oiled 0000 steel wool.

Sorry to be a pest but here goes! What oil exactly did you use and is that when micarta takes on a lustre? So far I am up to 1200 grit and although I am happy with the shape and feel of the scales, well you can still see the white pattern of the linen on them when dry. When wet they are much darker.

I don't know if it matters what type of oil you use, but I use almond oil, the same I used on the gripboards when I restored guitars. It brought out the colors and gave a nice, soft shine.

Don't sweat forgetting the before shots. There's a few of us who do that
