Thread: Solingen back from the dead

From a large lot I got a sad rusting hulk that I was just about to trash but decided to see what was under the rust. I think it was cell rot, but it looked a lot worse than it was and the pitting didn't make it deep enough to the bevel, so I cleaned it up and build some quick scales out of cherry and acrylic. Here she is, before:

It's a cool oblique point full 7/8 with maker "*H* Solingen". Anyone know who this is? The blade was pretty straight but not quite parallel to the spine and ended up being a PITA to hone.

Good call with no scrapping that one. The scales are a great shape and you've done an excellent job finishing them.
Just out of curiosity, what did you finish them with?

I did a spread-on thin CA glue finish. Never tried before but always wanted to. Had to do a little sanding after, but it came out pretty well. I'm hoping there's no problem with the possibility of gassing out onto the metal.

Just shaved this morning on a day's growth. Very smooth, I'd never used a hollow this big before but I love it.
