Thread: Custom Kamisori (style) razor

Hey guys,
Here is my first presentable and shaveable razor.
First razor, didnt hollow, gave up honing
Second razor, turned out nice, except the chainsaw bar I cut it out of lost its temper and is a nice RSO
Third, began life as a file, I ground it asymectrically and did a mild white vinegar patina, then reground and honed

I ground it on one of these,
Buy Craftex Grinder And Belt Sander Combo - CT169 from Busy Bee Tools

I wouldnt recommend it , the wheel on the belt grinder side is smalled then the housing of the machine, I set a 1/16 deep hollow on each side with the stone wheel, then continued with the belt grinder taking all the material off one side to the CL, one pass at a time, dipping in water after each pass.
Then I did the other side, only i had to grind with the razor upside down (because of the housing interference)...
It was painfully slow (approx 1.5 hrs per side)
Im going to swap out the 5 inch contact wheel for an 8 inch ASAP, as well as add another 2 pullies to accept 72" belts ( limited availability in grits with 21")

Im going to incorperate (in the setup) the 5" wheel, an 8" wheel and a 6" wheel, and make them interchangable - ill make the factory tensioner and tracking dial work.

I assume my next blade will grind a lot easier, I plan on using 01 and sending it out for heat treatment, rather then grinding hardened steel and dipping in water after EVERY pass!!!

Oh yes, it shaves beautifully. I nicked the side of my mouth with it, nothing serious, I attribute it to the $hit eating grin on my face.
