Thread: Shaving with a hocky stick

This is what I shaved with this morning.
I got it off the bay, it didn't have any sort of handle so I made one for it out of blood wood and ebony.
It took a while to hione and strop it but she shaves realy well, you just need to take your time under the jawline by the ear.
Cheeks come clean with only one swipe due to the largeness.

So size matters obviously. Damn that is a monster!

That was the only hard part. Sharpening wasn't bad but stropping was tough.

It didn't have any sort of handle though so that's where my woodworking prowess came in. It shaves nice and in a pinch I could gut a grizzly bear with one swipe.

Do you suppose that was always intended to be a razor? That blade is incredibly long.

As stated above, it started out life as a microtome, used for cutting thin slices of biological material for viewing under a microscope or in the old days for use on slides.

Exactly as Theseus stated. It was originaly used forcutting thin slices of biological material for viewing under a microscope.

I've actually seen a full kit of those blades sold as part of an autopsy kit. That one came with blades like that in, if memory serves, 3 different sizes with a single handle.
