I got a cool Wade and Butcher from the 1830s that was in pretty rough shape. I wanted to save the scales, but they were totally bug-eaten on the inside and the pivot end was toast, so I copied them onto some brown horn, and I think I got it pretty close to what it looked like originally. Original washers, with a somewhat modern blonde horn wedge, though it's hard to see from my camera.I left the patina on the blade, as I like that better in general. Just need to hone it up and it will go into the rotation. I did a day soak in oil for the scales before I pinned it, and I think it really made a difference in the shine of them.
