Default Great Gadgets That Save The Day !!

    Hey Guys,,

A thread started about any new device or gadget that saves your day,,, or night.

Last 2 weeks the temperature dropped to 60 degrees on a few nights; people froze their butts off down here. There was a run on heaters at Home Depot & Wal Mart. Chaos it was,,,

I was lucky to get the last little heater, a Hunter ceramic heater, $25.00. I didn't think it was much at the time, but performed well.
Heat up a bathroom in about 3 minutes,,,, heat up a large bedroom in 20 minutes.

Feel free to list the things that "Save The Day!"

About six or so years ago we had a major power outage. Some people went without power for three weeks. Temps not much above zero, roads blocked with snow, and my back up generator wouldn't start to save my soul. I dug around and found 4 Aladdin kerosene mantle lamps, one of which was my Grampa's, and fired them all up. My whole house went from 58 one morning to a balmy 74 in one hour. I had my own heat and light for almost 5 days and could have went longer. My lamps were all made in the early part of the last century, not a modern day gadget but they sure saved my butt in an emergency.

I saw this thread and was thinking about what single gadget I really appreciate. That I use for some random circumstance. Lo' and behold, I get home for lunch and the power is out to my apt complex. The energy company must be changing something. I forgot they were doing this and figured this wouldn't change my routine at all. I parked my car in the underground garage and went into a pitch black stairwell. I then quickly remember my smartphone has a flashlight setting. Boom! won't fall up the stairs! One less reason for me to not hate that thing with an unshakable passion.

My wife brought two antique Aladdin lamps to the marriage (along with a bunch of other things). We have used them a lot over the years during power outages. They give off a surprising amount of light, easily enough to read by and light a room. Their heat is a plus as well since it seems outages are more apt to occur in the wintertime.

What's great is that you can still buy new Aladdins and spare parts for the old ones. I keep at least 6 mantles and 8 wicks on hand at all times.

If you look at the wick raiser knob you will be able to date your wife's lamps.

Imagine the heat and light I got with four of them going at once.

Best gadget ever bought by myself, built the new house with a back up whole house generator, when the neighborhood was out for 7 days we had 4 freezers in the garage and friends who didn't suffer much! Other than that my P-38 is the ther great gadget. Tc

Years ago I bought a dozen or so of those at a surplus store and gave them all away except the one I carry on my key chain. You would be surprised at how many of the people I gave them to didn't know what a P38 was until I demonstrated it. After seeing how it works they all put P38 on their key chains too.

The P-38 Can Opener or the Walther P-38 pistol? or the Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter plane?
