Does that thing burn fuel as fast as I think it does? Given it's size, I'm sure it has a tank to match...
about half of it is tank. i used up half a bottle of butane filling it the first time, it's been used constantly for several weeks now without running dry. apart from 3 different punches on the bottom, it's got a built in screwdriver for adjusting the flame, i actually run it pretty low. haha, it was on all the way the first time i lit it, the resulting flame was about a foot long
Those Old boys look very like Dunhill Uniques. I had a sterling silver petrol Unique that was left to me by my grandfather. I treasured it & never took it out of the house as it was the only thing that I had of his. Then some utterly diseased scrotums broke into my house & stole it. Put it this way, it was one of the eight or so occasions I have ever lost my temper. There would have been murder
Now I'm on my third Zippo. All have been presents & one was lost, one stolen. The bitch of it is that not two weeks before it was stolen, I dangled the guy who tried to pocket it out of a third floor window. He gave it back, funnily enough. Then I went out one night & it disappeared from my fifth pocket. I suspect the girl who got very friendly on the dancefloor. The current one is a gorgeous golden rainbow finish.
Why on earth would anyone want to convert a petrol lighter to butane?I smoke cigarettes & the occasional stogie now, but used to smoke a pipe occasionally. I have never found the taste of the smoke to be affected by the naphthalene. Maybe it is my palate
Whether or not Dunhill ever did their own manufacture, I'm not 100% sure; however I think the lighters have always been made by IM Corona>
Interesting thread, and goes to show de gustibus non disputandem. I use a regular old-fashioned Zippo almost exclusively for my pipes, for example, have had it for years and years, and like it very well with the old as well as the new fuel. (And one can, ahem, if one insists, use Ronson lighter fluid in a Zippo. It's a matter between you and your conscience.) I know you can get a Zippo with a pipe attachment fitted to the sleeve, but I find if I'm careful, the regular lighter works fine.
Those trench lighters, by the way, which have always appealed to me too, it turns out were originally manufactured by Bowers Manufacturing in Kalamazoo; the legend about a soldier in the trenches making the first one out of a brass shell during World War I is just that, a legend, I guess. Bowers no longer makes them, but the last I looked, they were still often available on eBay. I'd just make sure it was an original Bowers rather than a knockoff.
Another lighter specifically for pipes that I've heard of, but never seen up close and personal, was the Nimrod. There's a good description here, but you have to scroll down about halfway down the page. Another style you could find on eBay, I expect. Some comments I've seen indicate that they suck up fuel pretty fast.
As you may suspect, I tend to be old-school about these things.

I have an old very slim, very light gold finish Colibri lighter. It is about and inch wide, two inches tall and maybe 3/8 inch thick. I'd post a picture but my camera is fried. I am wondering if anyone here is a Colibri collector and maybe wants this nice little lighter?
