Try a montecristo No. 5. It's a small model but packs a punch while it's still there. It'll definitely help ween you onto the longer models

Is it true that you don't actually inhale cigar smoke, you just hold it in your mouth (the first step of a French inhale) and then let it out?

Finally a question I can answer!
Yes, with cigars you only hold it in your mouth, it's not an inhaling -usually-
Some people prefer to take a cigar and remove the cancer paper from it, which will make it stop burning when you inhale, but, for the most part, cigars are meant for body, and taste to the tobacco, not for inhaling like cigarettes.

Tobacco is a mixed bag. As much as I used to enjoy
a good cigar I gave it up. My Dad died of cancer and
my Mom had lung problems from 50+ years of smoking.
Having said that and assuming you are past 21....
When picking a cigar find a brand that is as good to chew
as it is to smoke. If you smoke there are times when
lighting up is impossible and gnawing on a stogey works.
Messy (hard to find a place to spit) but it takes the edge off....

Or pick a REALLY expensive, REALLY high quality cigar, then smoke rarely. Make it a real luxury
