    Default Mustard!

I recently ran across a mustard recipe that my great grandfather used!

It is really simple to make, I soaked brown and yellow mustard seeds in flat brown ale overnight and then ground them up in the blender and add salt, vinegar, mustard flour, and spices.

It's quite hot and good! Time to make some Brats!

    Anyone else make mustard?

I don't make mustard myself, but my wife makes delicious and strong mustard for every christmas. The recipe is one her familys traditions.
That is maybe one of the best reasons to wait for christmas.

I love mustard, it's probably my favorite condiment. I had never even considered the possibility of making my own.

The 10 commandments were not the only thing that Moses brought down the mountain with him when he spoke to God.

*does the sign of the mustard*

What does your family do with mustard that prohibits you from sharing the recipe with people for their enjoyment?

    500 g Sugar
    1 Onions, chopped coarse
    ¼ Liter Water
    3 Carnations
    2 Bay Leaves
    8 Juniper Berries
    2 Pcs Black Pepper
    1 Liter Vinegar (Wine)
    250 g Mustard, ground, yellow
    125 g Mustard, ground, green

    Preparation

Boil water with onion, sugar, vinegar and spices 20 minutes minimum.
Mix the ground mustard in a big dish.
Pour the broth through a strainer over the mustard flour and mix thoroughly.
In case ist getting too thick, add a little water or vinegar.
Portion in marmelade jars and store in a cool place.

After two weeks it will be edible, earlier its quite sharp.
Take care not to let the mustard get to higher temperatures than 30° Celsius while you prepare it.
