    Default Throwing it out there

Good morning to the men of the forum!

I thought I would throw this out there and see what happens. As some on this forum know I will be losing my job at the end of the month. My company was kind enough due to the Christmas season to give me a 6 weeks heads up so I can look for work. The layoff is nothing personal and isn't performance based thankfully, it's just there is no work. I work in commercial construction in the field, though I do the paperwork side of things not the actual labor. The commercial construction industry as some know has been hit pretty hard this year with a lack of things to build and my company has lost two thirds of its employees in the last year alone.

Anyway, wanted to see if anyone had any job leads. I have a college degree in Communications and a masters in an unrelated category. My main experience is in commercial construction as well as the trucking industry (weird isn't it). I live in Tacoma Washington but my wife and I realize we may need to move in order to find work for the next couple of years. We would prefer not to but are reluctantly willing . All that to say is that if ya hear anything that you think might be close to what I can offer a company could ya drop me a line? I am not particular on what I do, though I would prefer the construction industry, may not be able to stick in that

Thankfully we saw the writing on the wall as it were and have reduced our monthly outgoing money so we can live on unemployment (yay!), but we all know a man needs to work or he goes stir crazy.

Thanks so much! The members on this forum have truly blessed me and my family and made our Christmas in so many ways already!

Sorry to hear it and of course I wish you luck. My initial career was as a union ironworker. What I found doing that was that even in the worst recessions (think the 1974-78) there was work in a few enclaves and if you went there you could make a living. We that did that were what is known as 'boomers'. Back then it was TVA in Tennessee, Dallas or the iron range in Northern, MN. I went to MN.

You might try calling the ironworker's local and ask them if they know where the boomers are going. I don't know if they would be free with the info but there will be work somewhere.
