Thread: Big City shroomin'!!!!! Morels that is.........

HEY GENTS,

I'm sure there are a few of you out there that share the love I have for the delicious sponge known as the "Morel Mushroom". I live within the city limits of the capital city in Ohio. Behind my house is a small patch of woods but I have always drove outside the city to scour the earth for these delicious treats.

I was a bit bored today so I took my dog out behind the house and we set off on our excursion. After about 3 hours and surprising results we now have a new honey-hole my friends. At final count we scored 367 morels. Can anyone guess what we will be having as an addition to Easter dinner this year at my house???????

Usually I just soak them in salt water over night after a thorough cleaning. Then roll them in a mix of flour and pepper, add butter to the skillet (sometimes olive oil) then fry them up til' they are a bit crispy.....and enjoy!

Pretty good on pizza also but I like them by themselves. I don't want anything else to mask the flavor.

Strange how you can go your whole life and never hear of something. Then after you discover it for the first time you run into it again immediately.
I have been looking at deer antlers on Ebay. There is a certain individual that loves to carve pieces of antlers into Morel mushrooms. I see two or 3 on every page. Until this week I had never heard of this kind of schroom and here you are with hundreds.

It's called the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon.

I didn't think they would pop up this early...time for a little adventure. They may not be up here by the lake yet, but I am definitely looking!

AAArrrghhhhhh!! I think our season is already over. It got unseasonably warm early, and we went out and got maybe 60 altogether. Enough for two dinners, and then it got cold again. The plants are growing in too thick, and the airs not warm enough. What a bummer! That is truly awesome btw! I haven't seen that many at once.....EVER.

They popped up here about a month ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they made another appearence once it warms up again.
