Thread: Maratac ZULU 20MM Watch Strap

Just received my Maratac ZULU strap from the UPS truck. Ordered it from countycomm.com. Got the 4 ring OD with low light rings. I like it so far....A lot! Got it on my Timex Expidition right now. The Timex has a green face so I went with the OD strap.

Maratec makes good Zulu straps. Probably at the top of the heap, there are some out there that are pretty poor. About the thickest I've seen are ones Lum-Tec uses on their Combat series watches. I don't know who makes them for them. They do sell them on their site.

I hope you enjoy yours. I really liked the one that came with by Deep Blue (Day/Night Ops), but then I discovered that the band stretches when it gets wet. Not sure if that's inherent of Zulu type straps or just on this one or just because it's a heavier watch.

So far so good. It gave me a higher respect for my Timex. It goes well together with it. Actually a buddy at work thought I had gotten a new watch. Just showed him that it was a new strap. Sure beats the lame leather/cloth one that came on it. It was starting to smell like cat piss anyway!

are those thick?
I got waterborne and it was thin and cheap, then I found really thick ones that I use now.

The Maratac is pretty stout. I wouldn't call it "thick", it is about a dime's thickness. It is robust and has not stretched yet. I plan to get another one in 22MM for my 007 Seiko that should be in the mail today. From the research I have done the Maratac ZULUs seem to be the most rugged straps of their type made. I have been thinking of posting pics on here if folks would care to see it?

It's an inherent property of nylon. I know when I dive my dive belt and BC both have to get tightened up after they get wet, which is why a lot of divers get those items wet before they hop in.

Well that's annoying...

Though I have to say, having spent more time now with the rubber and bracelet, I actually don't really like the nylon anymore. The rubber, being on the thick side, doesn't quite bend on its own; as a result it's somewhat loose but still grabs the sides of my wrist a bit to stay in place. And the bracelet also stays in place without getting uncomfortable. I put back on the zulu type and it slid all around. Odd, because I'd liked it so much at first but now it's my least favorite.

I'm a sucker for resin bands. I have a few on leather, 4 on metal bracelets, and about as many on resin. However, I found some Mossimo watches at Target that are rip offs of Relics (how sad is it that someone has ripped off a fossil, of all things) that have nice looking resin bands. They're under 20 bucks so I'm considering seeing if I can get one to fit my on my Orient Mako. It's kind of bulky and I'd like it to sit relatively still. I'd love to have a resin backed zulu/NATO strap.

Back to the topic at hand, I hope you like your new zulu strap. I've got one on my Seiko 5 sports and it's perfect on a lighter watch, at least with my thin wrists. The maratec's are well made and as long as you don't burn it or cut it the thing will last forever.
And yes, any time I'm offered watch or razor or bike or ski or fly fishing pr0n, I like to see it .

I have a Zulu on my Omega SMP. I love it. After several years a pin fell out of my Omega bracelet, so I got the Maratac until I had a chance to get it repaired. A year later, I'm still sporting the Maratac. It's comfy, looks good, and safe. I have a seiko divers watch on the way which will probably get a Zulu of its own.
