Default The Coolest Thing I've Ever Seen

So I stopped for gas on my way home from work and since the beer low level light was on, I decided to grab a 6 pack. They had a couple types of beers that I like but, to be honest nothing was singing to me. I was just about to take my beer business elsewhere and just go outside, pump my gas and hit the road then I saw it.

A corner of the refrigerator had shelves of singles (does me no good, says I.) Then I saw the sign on the shelf that said, "Singles $1.79, Mix and Match 6 packs $9.00." Then I saw a pile of folded up six pack cardboard holders off to the side and it was just neater than a skeeter's tweeter. Like buying a box of assorted donuts only with beer. My 6 pack included:

    Stella Artois
    Red Stripe
    Newcastle Brown Ale
    Fosters
    Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
    St. Pauli Girl

Never seen this done before, needless to say this place will be my go-to beer stop

They do that at the local Bloom grocery store here in town. I like a Guinness and a Bass mixed half and half so it's 3 Guinness and 3 Bass Ales.

Great idea somebody came up with.

Fosters ... as in Australian Fosters?

Look, I'll do you yanks a favour and let you in on a little secret. Fosters is our practical joke on the world. Seriously, it's used here for stripping grease off bbq plates, it's not intended for drinking.
    MickR and vvti713 like this.

Sounds a bit like Milwaukee's Best here in the states.

I'm not familiar with it. Sounds like that might not be a bad thing.

I knew it!!!!! I never could understand why I saw people drinking it I mean honestly it's worse then miller high life, which a college professor of mine once described as "bottled weasel urine" now the Sierra Nevada... That's a good beer. When I was living in Philly all beer stores had this a for whichever reason it wa illegal to sell singles, I guess that's what happens when the state owns all the liquor stores.

I should point out that several of the beers on the OP's list are known to me and not bad at all. Newcastle Brown has a good reputation here in particular. Personally I keep coming back to Guinness (Irish brewed of course, nobody else seems to get it right and the Australian brewed stuff is an absolute travesty ) and various ciders, but there are some nice beers out there.

    The Beast!

Wins top honors as one of the world's worst.

An English friend came over to stay with us for a while and drank Budwheezer - said it was the best thing he'd ever tasted. Unbelievable. Most of what they pass off as beer over here can't really be beer at all, but there you go.

I have honestly not seen an Australian drinking Fosters since I was a child. Most stores here don't even bother to stock it, it is all exported. And good riddance.

I like the mixed six pack idea. I wish we had a store here that did that. Every night could be like a little boozy trip around the world.
