Thread: Share your preferred grooming products

Since I started looking into wet shaving and trying out different high quality shaving soaps, creams, post shave balms, aftershave, etc... I have started noticing the lack of quality in other aspects of my daily grooming. Specifically hair treatment(shampoo, conditioner, pomade, etc...), and body soap/wash.

So I thought it would be interesting to post this to see what all of the fine classic shavers of SRP prefer to use.

Feel free to include any non-shaving grooming products that you prefer. No need to limit this to just hair products.

I guess it's only fair for me to start.

I am going to start trying some new products, but right now this is my lineup:

Shampoo:
Vive Pro for Men shampoo(fine/thinning hair).
It is pretty much the only men's shampoo available at my local grocery store. I work in a machine shop and this does a pretty good job of stripping all that machine oil out of my hair.

Conditioner:
Pantene Pro V
I just started using this. It is actuaally my girlfriend's that she leaves in my shower. I like it a lot, except the smell is a little too womanly.

Body wash:
Dove Care+Men
It was this or axe. I can't complain, it does the job, but I would like to find something new.

I am very happy with one that I actually tried on a whim because it was there in front of me on the counter...

You have to understand I haven't bought hair products for myself in ages , basically I get handed down stuff that the wife decides she doesn't like
I am one of those people that was blessed with the kind of hair that basically I can use anything or nothing and it works But we had stopped at Sally's beauty supply for some sort of thing she needed, and there at the counter on sale, was a jar of Pinaud's MEN's yes MEN's hair gel, even said right there on the label "Especially formulated for MEN's hair " I was sold, well that and it was on closeout special for maybe $3....
Honestly I like the stuff, I swear it works better than all the fancy smanchy stuff she hands down to me...

So besides my shaving stuff that is really all I can add for ya

I recently found pinauds hair gel as well at my local walgreens and love the smell and the hold I get from it. I use it every day to spike my hair up.

As far as shampoo and conditioner, I am currently using C.O. Bigelow's mint scented. I also tried the art of shaving's shampoo and conditioner and loved them. I am hoping to find cheap shampoos and conditioner that use essential oils in them because I love the feeling of them on my scalp lol.

Onto soap/body wash. I had been using old spice body wash because I love the scent, but recently changed to soap and washcloth. I am using Irish spring soap, but am definitely open to something new that is not too expensive, maybe also made with essential oils.

So that's what I've been using. I can't wait to see what other suggestions we get in this thread.

I'm balding rapidly so I don't really care about hair care products much anymore. I keep it close cropped, trying for that Jason Statham look and failing miserably.

As far as bodywashes, I'm a huge fan of Dr. Bronner's liquid soaps. Almond is my personal favorite, but hemp and mint are close seconds. Their mint soap is made with mint extract, so it's incredibly refreshing on a warm day after exercising or doing yard work. Almond has a great smell and it's made with plant oils so it doesn't dry out your skin. Dr. Bronner himself was a little barmy so there's crazy ranting all over the bottle, but it makes good shower reading! I've seen the bar form in a lot of groceries, but for the liquid form you'll have to go to health food stores or order it online. I can't say enough about this great liquid soap.

Wegmans has this $1 shampoo and matching $1 conditioner. Pretty sure it's Suave. I like the ones with the waterfalls on them.

I used to use Dr. Bronner's. I liked it a lot, but found it difficult to use because it's consistency is close to that of water.

Once one of my girlfriend's friends gave us a shampoo and conditioner called "NOW Organics" something or other because she was allergic to it. It was great stuff, I think it was berry scented and I have never used another shampoo/conditioner like it, expensive or cheap. All natural organic type stuff. That company also sells a lot of EOs and such.

Call me old fashioned, but I love Ivory bar soap. for hair, its what ever the swmbo uses my money for.

I've tried Paul Mitchell but it left my hair crusty. Aubrey Organics has good shampoo, but you have to try lots of them to find the formula that's right for your hair type. I keep coming back to American Crew. It gets your hair clean without making it too dry, and you can usually find good deals on that brand in beauty supple stores.
