Thread: Fly fishing anyone?

So who out there fly fishes? I bass and bluegill fly fish and tye my own flies.
Where do you all fly fish? I fish in lakes and ponds in southern GA.

I have recently found an interest in fly fishing for panfish. Am in the process of picking out equipment, going thru the catalogs, etc. I live in northeast Alabama and blue gills are my primary target. Any suggestions. I am totally ignorant on the subject. A Zebco 33 is pretty high tech as far as I am concerned. Any help would be appreciated.

Actually there are a number of us who fly fish. See previous threads in this same section. I've authored several books on fly rod and reel makers. We're a pretty diverse group at SRP!

Mastershake, I presume you're pond fishing in the Valdosta area? I lived about 14 years in Brunswick & St Simons, but moved up to Massachusetts some years ago. Here we have real coldwater trout streams and even Salmon runs!

Nice, sounds like some good fishing.

I used to fish with my parents in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales back last century, around Tantangara Dam, and Eucembene, Murrumbidgee river headwater. I do miss it, still have some lovely Hardy cane trout fly rods and silk lines ect

I'm headed to Michigan soon to flyfish for King Salmon. Big ugly streamers, Spey rods and fish with real bad attitudes.

I live on the Yakima river. It is great fishing in this area, but my head is currently swollen to the size of a watermelon and the end of summer these fish are so smart that they can be buggers to catch. Of course that is part of the fun.
Within on hour drive from my front door I have over a dozen premium lakes, small mouth fishing, salmon, steelhead, spring creeks; its hard to find bad fishing here.

I have gotten lazy on tying and rod building lately. The market here for custom rods died off with the economy, but I'm still the only one in my area who builds wood rods and all parts from scratch.
