Default Any thoughts on a .22 LR?

I'm looking to start shooting again, and would like to go with a 22 LR so I can nab a Ruger MK whenever the license comes through and share the ammo.

I'm in the midst of researching, and it's looking like the CZ 452 is one of the more recommended. Something in that price range would be nice (I'm looking at the training model, unless I can find something else used to stay on budget). I'd like something that will be accurate out of the box; no scope and no trigger kit. I don't necessarily prefer a bolt, but I am under the impression that they tend to be more accurate. I'm just going to be target shooting; no competitions or anything, but I'd still like a nice platform.

I know we have a few shooters, so I thought I'd rack your brains.

I have had CZ products and they are VERY NICE for the money. Other than that any big name maker will do, Marlin, Ruger etc.

I don't have any experience with CZ rifles but I know the pistols are very nice. I also recommend the Marlin. Ruger 10/22 can be picky with ammunition, I've never had that problem with the Marlin autoloader or the bolt gun. Some of the Remington rifles don't like Winchester ammo, it screwed us with at our last competition.

    Kelly,

I have a Ruger Mark III Hunter with a long fluted barrel (can't remember length off the top of my head) & fiber optic sights. I used it in rimfire matches this summer & love it. I'll take pics & post when I get home.

Sorry I didn't notice you were asking about rifles not pistols

I like both my 10-22 and my Buckmark. They are great plunkin' fun.

I have several of the CZ 452 rifles and they are great shooters out of the box. I like the military style ramp sights. Any big name produces products on par with each other. Decide which style action you want and go from there. Some of the old single shots are great...

The 452 is a nice rifle no doubt. I have a Henry H001T with a 3-9x32 scope that will plink .22 cases at 25 yards off a front rest all day long. No trigger work. I know you wanted no scope, but Henry does make a nice rifle now.
Seen here with being held by my son. I'm holding some cheap auto of my dad's.
