Default Totally Awesome Version of a Great Song

It has been documented on this very site that I'm a huge fan of Dire Straits and think Mark Knopfler is a guitar god walking amongst mere mortals. That said, I also dig good flamenco or classical guitar as well. This guy does an absolutely awesome job combining the two.

This Aussie bloke does a fantastic version of Classical Gas Too

And last but certainly not least, Rodrigo y Gabriela (sounds like a cigar) doing the absolutely most stunning version of Stairway to Heaven I've ever heard

Very nice . Funny that I had dinner at a friends,on the weekend and Sultans Of Swing came on the hi-fi . Too bad Dire Straits biggest hit , is also their weakest - "Money For Nothing" . Thanks for posting !

    Cheers,

Yeah, not a big fan of Money for Nothing, IMHO it's just too...well pop...pandering to MTV, etc. Knopfler is too damn good for that kind of music but I'd put Sultans of Swing on my top 10 songs of all time list.

Is that a bottle of Mandom in your avatar? Is it still available in Japan?

Absolutely amazing. I can't move my fingers that fast. Thanks for sharing. I wonder if there's a cd available?

Speaking of Mark Knopfler and others who can play the guitar with incredible mastery, I just came upon this clip of Mark playing with Chet Atkins (No that's not George W. Bush!)

While we're on the subject of great covers, The Killers did a cover of Dire Straits' "Romeo and Juliette" that was really exceptional. It's not better, just different and as good as the original. Love that song, loved that album. I think Knopfler is not only a gifted music writer, he's also a great lyricist too.

That looks like Earl J. Hickey playing drums there :-P
