Thread: Bluegrass Anyone?

I was feeling kind of hillbilly...uh...I mean Appalacian American so I decided on a little Bluegrass to warm up for my Friday night shave. Stumbled across these guys and thought to myself, "Gee, this are really young kids." but man they can JAM. I was also quite surprised that they're from New Jersey. I thought banjos were illegal up there. Anyway here they are:

Of course the obligatory Hee Haw clip. IMHO, Roy Clark is terminally underrated as a musician. He can play about anything and is one of the greatest guitar players that ever lived. His version of Malaguena will have to wait for another night. This here is some good banjo pickin'

I was disappointed when I went down south and east a few years ago. I had a hard time finding me some hillbillies. I know many more her in MN. Maybe I just know where to look! It ain't an Appalachian only thing. LOL

Ray was "grand-dad" for quite a bit so I grew up with Bluegrass. Kind of funny since we grew up in upstate NY. Also my first guitar teacher.

When I talk to folks about Bluegrass, what almost always comes to their mind is "I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow" which they remember from the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou".

I had the privillege to meet the Father of Bluegrass Bill Monroe in person and one of my favorite songs of his is "Footprints In The Snow"

My older brother turned me on to Old and In the Way more years ago than I care to admit. We were both just kids at the time. Now he's an older old fart than me.

I love Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs and especially the Stanley Brothers but for some old timey in the style that gave birth to the bluegrass ......

Oh but I must disagree. I can't fault your choice, not a bit. But during the "Oh Brother" tour, Patty sang them all off the stage. She's amazing recorded, but you have to hear her sing live to know what I'm talking about.



And if that don't bury you, this one will. I wanted to find her version of "Cheap Whiskey" and couldn't.
