Default What is your favorite drug store tobacco

To qualify it can't be a proprietary blend you get at a specialty tobacco shop or order online. It has to be something available at your local drug store like a Walgreens, a grocery store or one of the cut rate liquor/tobacco barn type stores. Something you can easily find in almost any town. Pipe tobaccos or cigars are welcome.

SO what is your favorite drug store tobacco?

I have tried many in my pipes and I have to say that Captain Black White and Lane Limited 1-Q are tied for first as my favorites. As a matter of fact I can't tell much difference between the two.
Lane Limited BAC for second place.
Rounding it out at third is Captain Black Blue.

Yes I do. To put it into context though, my cigarette of choice at the time were Lucky Strikes nf. Smoked the Half & Half more for it's nicotine content than for the flavor( couldn't taste anything anyways )

I coined a phrase for such tobacco, "Codger Burley" these were the classic old school tobaccos that most of the codgers burned in bulk back when I was a kid. Tough to point to one I don't like although I'm not a big fan of Captain Black or Palladin Black Cherry (fill in any other goopy aromatic.) In order, here's the ones I like:
    1. Prince Albert (the National Joy Smoke)
    2. Half and Half
    3. Five Brothers (all the vitamin N a growing boy needs)
4, Carter Hall (used to make my stash smell like fresh baked dinner roles)

Edgeworth Ready Rubbed, which is no longer made would probably beat out Half and Half if it were still on the market. Rum and Maple (the first pipe tobacco I ever smoked) was also great back when it was made. Kentucky Club is OK. Sir Walter Raleigh always struck me as far too cigarette like, not a big fan.

My problem with Codger Burlies locally is cost. Thanks to the nanny state, a 14 ounce tub of Prince Albert will now set me back about $50. For a little over half that price I can smoke Cornell and Diehl bulk blends, a pound of Old Joe Krantz (best pipe tobacco on the market IMHO) is about $35 delivered to my door. If you're looking for a drugstore blend to try the four I listed would be tough to beat.

I personally like almost any of the Captain Black blends.

My father smoked Half & Half pretty much all of the time and I followed in his footsteps for many years. Now I smoke GL Pease and Gawith & Hoggarth blends mostly. Cap Black ain't bad either. If you learned on Half & Half you had to learn to smoke the pipe correctly. If you didn't the tongue bite would eat you alive.

If I spend the money on tobacco I'm usually getting some stuff from a tobacconist, but for a smoke in a pinch I like backwoods sweets. They're about $1 a piece and not too bad

I know many of you guys can't do it and I'm sorry for you, but for me it's always a Cuban cigar nowadays. Since I managed to get rid of my snuff monkey 8 months ago (after 35 years), cigars are my only tobacco vice - any premium Habano with some age will do fine

You're not the only one. Unforunately it is rather difficult to get my hands on any though. Do love me a nice cuban
