The Emporeum sports departement sold mauser 98s for 13 bux,they had 100s of the darn things,them and Rolling blocks (same price).

I wish I'd had the foresight to buy every damn Ballester Molina and Mexican 1911 in 38 Super I saw back in those days. 25 to 35 bucks each! 38 super in a 1911 will shoot rings around a 45. Hell, I wish I'd had the foresight to buy ALL of 'em back then. We never thought the supply would dry up...

I worked at gun shop in high school. I don't know how many 03's and 03A3's we cut up for sporters. We always had three or four in the works. The owner gave all the old stocks and parts to whoever asked for them. Oh well. LOL

Full auto is great if Uncle Sugar is buying your ammo. All I've got left are some pistols, a couple of deer rifles, and three shotguns. NONE of which were bought at a store.

i have the ar15 which is mine but it isnt its waiting on a soldier to return from afganistan and its gonna be his gift he loves it and i cant think of a better gift for him when he returns (only shot about 4 boxes thru it. . I have a 30-06 deer gun my 303 and 2 12 ga rabbit guns, a 22 for traps and a 22 pistol waiting on me to be able to get a permit for it so i can use it to check traps with. I wish that it was the old days when you could send war trophies home id try to get some stuff when i deploy overseas but i heard those days are long gone.

You can still get stuff home.we did in the mid 60s,Send back a trigger gaurd here,An action assy there,bits and pces my man

Obviously you have not heard about the mailman during WWII, he found out he had delivered an entire jeep to an address piece by piece during the war. He got an instant hernia upon finding out about it.

i have heard about the jeep and that would be great, but i heard that they watch you like a hawk when u ship stuff home. id love to bring back some stuff.

I don't think you got taken. Got to take into consideration that I've been around a lot longer and when I was young, SMLE's were pretty much on the bottom of everyone's idea of a "cool" milsurp rifle. They are awesome pieces of machinery and will go the distance for another century with nary a burble.

My grandfather (b. 1906 d. 1983) used to say "in WWI, the damned Germans used a sporting rifle, the Americans brought a target rifle, and the Brits used a fighting rifle."

Not too eloquent but right on the mark in my mind.

65 dollars today, is probably about the same as 12 bucks was in the 60's as far as purchasing power.

that makes me happy, i cant wait to get it back from the gunsmiths and sight the scope in and get ready for next bear season.

A simply awesome story! I deal with a great FFL who consigns firearms for widows. He always gets top value for them, the only guns he sells that he does not take offers or make deals. The horror stories he's told on widows who sold off their husband's "old junk" for pennies on the dollar.
