    Default Needing belt grinder design

I have been looking a belt grinder designs for several months now and haven't found any ones that I like. I am looking to build a bolt together type design. My job has just sent out an email regarding selling scrap/left over material. I can get square tubing, round bar, angle iron and pipe of various sizes. If anyone can provide me a design they would involve any of these I would appreciate it.

I'll be watching this closely. All the plans I've seen are for knife makers, with modifications that make it possible to use on straights. I'd rather have one with straight razor grinding as its primary design purpose.

Well now you spent some time with the grinders in Charlie's shop, nothing caught your eye?
Plus talk to Scott and Victor. Tc

Victor said he found a design on a website which I can't seem to find. And Charlie said to ask Randy. It's not that nothing caught my eye it's more of I'm doing my damnedest to make a purely bolt together design or modify a design to accomodate not having to use a single weld.

I think usaknifemaker sells the plans for a no weld grinder.

I got a lot of my ideas from Charlie's grinder and a UK Blade forum. Of course as a welder, mine is all welded.

Besides contact wheels, (flat) platen and small wheel attachments, used by both knife and razor makers and maybe the option to turn your grinder vertical, I'd love to hear what makes a grinder straight razor friendly? Just curious.

If you can get square tubing etc, why not clamp and weld? In my experience bolting is much more difficult in terms of keeping things aligned. Plus bolts taps and drills cost money too.

That said aren't the plans for a no weld grinder posted here in a sticky
    ?

There is a group on FB about DIY belt grinders. Folks share their designs too, check it out if you like.

I don't have a welder and I was trained to be a machinist, so I have 0 experience welding and wouldn't trust any of them to hold of I tried, if I could even find a welder to use. I have taps and drill bits. Although most of my cost will probably be in bolts.

Heres a couple ideas Polar Bear Forge - Tools

If I had the time, and was getting the steel for close to free, I'd clone a KMG. Assuming you buy quality components, wheels, motor, VFD, contact wheels and tooling arms, you will still have a pretty good amount of cash invested, almost worth buying a grinder and saving time.

As far as a knife makers grinder adapted to razors.....it is what it is . a 2x72 with variable speed and proper sized contact wheels. There is no difference in the machine, you can call it a razor grinder but aside from wheel size there is no difference as far as I can tell.
Just try to build versatility into the design, easy change tool arms, work rests and such.

    Variable speed for sure.
