Thread: new forge

I finally put together my forge tonight. The exterior of the tube is 10” by 12” the chamber is about 4.5 X 12. I am going to put a movable back wall and coat with ITC100 this weekend.

You can see my old one brick forge in the background, the off white brick.

Looks like a step-up to full scale production (scale meaning size)
Wish I could get my other life back… so much fun with metals… Oh well maybe one day…

Charlie, that looks pretty good! Do you anticipate having to choke the burner down at all?

It is the same on both ends there are two shelves.

I have a choke made but could not tell that it made any positive changes. Perhaps I need bigger vent holes like has been suggested to me. There are three of the vents plus the portion of the tube that is not blocked by the 1/8 pipe. The jet is a 1/8 pipe with a cap on it drilled to .5MM - .020”. I made several different jets.

I have several burners that I made this one runs the best over the greatest range of pressures and flows.

It seems to run smooth and heat up quickly.

A good way to make burner tips is to use mig welder tips (tweeco tips mentioned alot).

What did you use for insulation in the firebox?
