Thread: Tubing question

Working on a Tuckmar that was pretty sad, new scales of Rosewood, but the hole in the blade is HUGE! Cleaned it up to 3/32", thinking I'll make a tube to reduce the hole some. Based on experience with clock repair, thinking brass tube, steel pin (well polished). Sound OK, or sumpin else work better? Any sad or good experience out there?.........Mikey

There are several ways to solve your dilemma. I've read about the brass tube sleeve, a plastic sleeve (such as a cut piece of ink pen tube) or filling it with epoxy then drilling a new hole.

The important thing is to use something impervious to (or at least resistant to) rust.

You can get 3/32" hollow brass tubing at Ace Hardware or probably any hardware. Cut with a dremel then epoxy the bushing in the hole. Let it cure for at least one day then drill inside the bushing with a 1/16" drill bit. You're good to go. I just did this a couple days ago.

Thanks, guys. Guess I'll go with the brass and steel, then. Got a garage full of lathes and mills and etc.'s, so can make the tubing to fit "just right".
