Thread: re-grind question

Could someone explain how to asses a razor that your going to regrind to even out honeware or reshape like an old wedge?
do you use a sharpe to find the high and low points along the back?
any chance one of you guys would make a tutorial for the wiki of the process

I'm not sure it's exactly clear WHAT you want to know in particular... Do you want to know how to tell if a razor would be a good candidate for a regrind? It's usually pretty obvious if the hone wear is heavy and/or there is pitting/black spots to various degrees. Do you want to know how to tell what you need to do while regrinding to even everything out? If so, I don't think I could really explain that. There's so much that goes into it that I've found you just need hands on practice, and a lot of it at that. Once you are comfortable, things are just apparent, but it's very difficult to explain- especially to type it out. There are also a lot of issues that can come up while doing the actual regrind that might not ever need addressing on another razor.

correcting hone basically like the Marsh razor you just did, I figure its something that takes allot of practice but was trying to get a basic plan to start practicing. maybe a video? hint, hint could be posted. I was thinking nthat if I put ink on the entire razor and ran it over a hone I would atleast know where to begin is that sound right?or is there a book I should get, you know I answered my own question knife makers book and videos of which there are plenty so Ill start there
