Thread: When to change Barbicide?

For those who use Barbicide, how often to you change it? The barber shops change it every few days or once a week. But since I'm the only one using it for my razors I don't change it that often. Before every shave I dunk the straight into it for a few seconds and then rinse it really well. I've been changing the Barbicide about every 6 to 8 weeks, but I'm thinking I could go longer.

What do you think?

Damn! I was just thinking of asking this very question! I just bought mine and literally filled it for the first time, YESTERDAY.

Somebody please answer this question, 'cause I don't have a clue!

I'm using Clippercide...spray it on, wait about half a minute, wipe it off.

I'm in the market for barbicide myself. Did you get the 8" or the 11" model? I was thinking the shorter one since razors aren't as long as say barber shears so no need for the taller bottle.

I got the "midsize" (8 inch), figuring that the taller one would be a waste for my use. After some time I'll maybe be able to tell whether that was true of not.

On the immediate plus side, my wife says that the filled jar is a pretty blue color, no friction there at any rate!

I don't use Barbicide, but nonetheless an interesting question... mostly because there was a disturbing lack of a definitive answer when I searched the net. Perhaps this is due to the potential legal liability if someone were to follow such instructions and then become infected with something??

I did find lots of references with rule of thumb answers -- "daily", "at least weekly" or "whenever it looks cloudy"... these didn't make me feel very secure in knowing what to do. Most regulatory agencies (health depts, etc.) deferred to "the manufacturers instructions"... for those of you who have purchased/use Barbicide, was there any instruction included with the product? Several of these sources did, however, mandate daily changing of the solution. I also checked the manufacturer's website, but there was no relevant info... A call to Brooklyn reveals the following, according to the nice lady at King Research:

The EPA mandates that they put on the label and recommend that it be changed daily, or when visibly cloudy.

So, I guess that's the answer.

Since you are protecting yourself from yourself, unless you are dropping in ebay specials, I would think that when it turns cloudy would be often enough.
