ok as some of you maybe aware i bought a razor from ebay a little while ago and after giving it a hot water bath to clean it, the blade reacted badly and ended up looking like this help needed - whats going on with this blade ????.
after some kind suggestions on what to-do about it and what may have caused the problem, i was getting no where cleaning the balde up and was on the verge of giving up and shipping it off to have it polished professionally, however this weekend i was in Halfords (uk car part store) and noticed a metal polish on the shelves so i figured hey for £5 its worth ago.
after 4 hours of polishing it now looks like this
the blade is spotless now, the camera is showing a shine in the middle of the blade and the little marks are dried polish, im officially over the moon about how the blade has turned out after my stupidity
This is also my first attempt at a razor restore and am learning a lot as i go along, I de-pinned the blade today when i knew the polish was working and have been polishing the blade ever since.
so im sure some of you are now ready to ask the question "what polish did i use"
its called Autosol and its been around for as long as i can remember (link below for any of the uk guys looking to try it when restoring).
Halfords | Autosol Metal Polish
so im now officially a happy bunnyand have learnt a lesson in that hot water dipping is a big no-no from now own, im going to just use common sense and some liquid soap to clean blades in future.
my next step is to straighten up the scales as one has a slight warp to it repin the blade and then give it a good honing as its seriously blunt at present.
thanks to everyone who commented in my old thread with advice on how to correct the blade it was really appreciated.
