Default Hair growth direction and shirt collar?

Hey guys, I shave 5 days a week and wear a collared shirt with a tie 5 days a week as well. The direction of my beard on my neck grows upward making it tough to get a close shave in that area without irritation. When I shave at night, cold water rinse, thayers aftershave, and use a good lotion (currently AOS Sandalwood) the redness and bumps seem minimal by morning. At the end of the work day my neck is extremely irritated with the red bumps reappearing from rubbing on my shirt collar all day.
Just curious if anyone else has encountered this problem and has any solutions. I'm fairly new to straights but this has been a problem for the 16 or so years I've shaved and especially worse in the past 7 years with this job.

If you have your technique down good it might be you need to accept a not so BBS shave in that area if the extra strokes are causing problems.

Well my technique is probably far from perfect with a straight but this is a problem that has plaqued me thru cartridges, electrics, DE, as well as straights. If I do achieve BBS it ends up irritated because of my buttoned collar and tie the following day.

You might also try a little Alum after your shave on the neck and see if that helps any.

    Have fun.

I used to have the same problem when I had to wear a tie every day. A little talc on the area before you put your shirt and tie on will work wonders.

Lynn, I actually just ordered some alum, I couldn't find anyone local that carried it. Thanks

I thought about the talc but my uniform shirts are black and the least bit of dry skin or anything looks like it snowed on your neck.
