    Default Nice/Classy Shavette?

    Hey guys,

I know it's a random question, but is there such a thing as a nice Shavette? Or is it just a pipe dream?

I work in the desert in Australia, and can't take my proper cutthroat, strop, etc with me. At the moment I have a Weishi DE and a Wahl Shavette for travel. The Weishi doesn't seem to shave at all well - I've tried feathers, Astra SP, etc but doesn't have enough bite (I do have a course beard, fusion cartridges only work once). The Wahl just feels cheap and really takes away from the experience.

Any suggestions? Alternatively does anyone know a craftsman on the board that might be able & willing to make something nice that doesn't cost a kidney?

You could also go with a Feather.... They are much more expensive, but the design is better and longer lasting, more permanent maybe? You could look into one of those for travel. They take a (Feather, Kai) disposable blade.

Yes, feather makes some really nice disposables. They are probably the closest thing to a straight but they can get really pricey.

    Bob,
I concur with my friends coachschaller and thebigspendur. Go with the Feather. I find it far superior to all the other straight razors with replaceable blades. I have had the Feather Artists Club for a number of years and love it for what it is.

    Hey guys,

I've had a look at the feather and they do look very nice. I'm sort of looking for something that normal blades, or snapped in half.

I might try and get a dovo and rescale I think..

The shavettes that use half DE blades does not compare at all, the Feather is on a whole another level, so that would be a very poor choice IMO.
The Feather blades lasts for 7-10 shaves easily so a 20-pack of the blades goes a looooong way.

Has anyone got a line on feather artist club's at a good price? I've kind of baulked at the $250 they seem to command (that's a lot of straights).. Are they something that come up second hand?

I'm getting great shaves out of a 'Venta' 1/2 de blade with astra SP or Feather blades, and very similar results with the wahl.

The Dovo 5/8 takes much more pressure (I think I suck at stropping) so if the feather is more similar to a real straight it would be an advantage..

I can highly recommend the Artist Club SS, it's an amazing shaver: Feather Artist Club SS

Blix can you recommend an online retailer? I'm based in Aus and the SS only seems to be in Japan..

So should I go traditional black, or modern lime green to go with the modern profile?..

Take a closer look at my post, I did just that. That's pretty much the only way to buy one outside Japan.

Now that's totally up to you. Peronally I bought a black one, but the lime is cool as well.
