Question $100 What do the experienced think i should spend it on?

I recently started shaving and essentially have one of each of the necessities.

    I have:
    Boker King Cutter
    SRD latigo strop
AOS brush, shaving cream, ASB, pre shave oil
    Alum block
    Which hazel

I've allotted myself $100 but don't really know what i should spend it on. I was thinking maybe a second shave ready razor in a different size and grind(new or vintage), or some castle forbes cream and a puck of MWF, etc, etc, etc...

What do you guys with more experienced would be a good next step, or what would you do in my situation?

Visit the classified's or www.straightrazordesigs.com , you get free shipping after $100. It looks like you have the bases covered. You could consider trying out another razor as it's very good to have another, try different soaps, aftershaves, or even a barber hone. It's not hard to drop a Benjamin...

Another shave ready razor would be my choice.
That way you could keep shaving while you send one out for honing.
The classifieds usually have quite a few at a decent price.
And if there were any funds left after that I would get a good soap too.

Really, this depends on you. Do you want to be able to maintain/hone your own razors? Can you afford/want to send your razors out to be touched up?

If you would like to maintain your razors, I would say invest in a barber hone that has a good reputation, like a Swaty, etc. If not, Pick up another razor, so you have a backup while the other is sent out for touch-ups/honing.

For me, it was a logical step to hone/maintain my own razors because I do that for my pocketknives/kitchen knives, etc. Follow your instincts. If you want to be self sufficient, do the research, and ask people. That's what the mentors, etc are here for on SRP. Don't be afraid to send a PM. We would be glad to help you in any way possible!

Glad to see replies so quick, there are definitely a few razors in the classifieds that look decent for under 100, i would get something bigger i think. I got my razor during the december sale at SRD so i have the lifetime of free honing(amazingly gracious of Lynn and Don) so i was thinking of keeping that one honed up by Lynn so I can always have a "control" when I start honing/touching up my own razors.

Still, my razor is brand new so i could get other stuff now and wait a month or so and then get a second razor...if i were to go that way.

    Indecisive...

I do want to be self sufficient, i would in fact like to be able to restore razors in the long run(not till I'm ready), I'm actually a sushi chef and at least do some touch up work on at least one knife a day at work, because we are busy and aside from my yanagi my knives get abused, tho Im used to hard steel paper thin razors are a tad intimidating. i was thinking of starting with a naniwa SS 12,000 and some CoOx .5 micron for touch ups.

FWIW (you should spend it on whatever you want, really!) --

You don't have a DE razor, and you may not want or need one. If you do, vintage Gillettes are inexpensive, and a new Edwin Jagger DE89 (which I just got, and am falling in love with) is about $40. Add a barber hone, and a puck of Tabac, and most of your money would be spent.

Certainly the Naniwa finishing hone and some CrOx paste would satisfy your final-honing needs. Your knife hones would be coarse enough to set bevels on old razors -- no need for anything new.

You may be in that delightful situation of having everything what you need. Well, _almost_ everything . . . <g>
