Thread: So much talk of Get togethers what about PDX

Any one from Northern California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, or Utah want to get together.

Just in the feel out stages now. I know there are at least 3 people from Oregon, I know Glen is in Idaho.

Others out there. There are so many places as far as halls to have this thing.

Sure, maybe... I'm a noob, so it would be a good learning opportunity.

So giving it some thought.

I was thinking of a Saturday, Sunday get together at a local hotel in downtown. A small space.

I was thinking of having a vendors corner with two or three rented computers so people could paypal.
I was thinking of having a collectors corner where people could show off collections.
I was thinking of having a honing 101 workshop and perhaps a workshop to address specific issues, smiles, frowns, Elvises etc.
I was thinking of having a blade restoration workshop, rust removal, polishing, pit removal, sandpaper, alternative methods.
I was thinking of having a scale making / unpinning and pinning workshop.

All of the above workshops with lectures and Q & A.

Perhaps a lecture on the history of shaving or barbering. There is a Barbers Museum in Ohio, perhaps a local member may be able to help out.

THoughts.

When we talked about a Greater NW Gathering (HERE) last time, Portland was the place of choice, since you are there, maybe this might come together now...
Count me in, except for the first weekend in June which is the NC gathering....

Heck yeah. There are so many places to have this thing. We have a Mass transit train that will take you from the airport to downtown and all trains and buses are free downtown. Its perfect really. Plus all the good shave shops are downtown.

I think I would need at least 20 people to be interested before I started calling around to get prices on hotel blocks and reserving spaces etc..

I spoke to Pamela at the Hilton in Downtown Portland.

Aug 1-2, 8-9, 15-16 & July 11-12 all arrivals for Hotel rooms are on Friday checkout on Sunday.

$119 single or double occupancy per night King or Double twin. Under 18 yo free so bring the family.

Looking at a 20 room block with an expectation of 40 people for the get together.

I am going to look at the conference rooms today to get a sense of scale and layout.

Saturday morning will be a catered breakfast and a welcome speech, probably delivered by me, detailing the days events. I am not sure if we need the conference room for 2 days or 1 full day.

Total cost after the room rental will be an additional $7 - $20. Pamela and I need to figure that part out.

VENDORS, we will have wireless access so bring your laptop for paypal transactions. I am also working with her to rent a laptop with printer to print off paypal receipts so that the vendors know that you paid with a credit card in case you forgot your cash.

Great, that is 4 people. I count me even though I will be very busy with everything.

I just want everyone to know that I am working hard to keep the overall out of pocket low on this. I know that some may fly in or others may drive.

I also posted this a The Shave Den. Hopefully I can drum up some more support.

Depending on the final date and finances I am a "possible".
