    Default IOWA 2010 Meet-Up

    Yup, you read it right.
    I-O-W-A
That boring little state between the Minnesota and Missouri meet-ups is considering having its own little gathering. There has been a spark of discussion about it HERE so I thought it was time to set up a thread for it.

Volchonok has mentioned the possibility of hosting. Depending on the timing of the gathering, I might be a host option as well, as long as visitors don't mind a rustic dirty house full of moving boxes and tools and junk.
Oh, and I have cats, so if there is an allergy issue please let me know. Volchonok's place sounds great doesn't it?

I can provide a variety of hones, a microscope, strops, lots of fixer upper razors anyone can use for honing practice, and a buffer if there is interest. The Big Green Egg might play a role as well!

So, let's throw out some potential dates. Please let us know what does and does not work you. Personally, I'd prefer sometime near the back half of October. I'll be unemployed after October 29 so I'd rather do it before or shortly after that date because I'll probably be moving some time after that.

So, let us know here if you are interested and when you can come.

That sounds good to me... I work a three week on, three week off schedule...

If we are looking at the end of October, first of November, I should be home in that time frame.

So far the response has been underwhelming. I PM'd each person in Volchonok's thread who expressed interest in this and have only heard back from Nosewarmer.

I'll bump this thread occasionally to see if we can interest anyone else.

I'm definitely up for an Iowa meet... Name a time and place and I'll be there, likely with restoration tools.

Benjamin and Nosewarmer, did you get my PM about this a couple days ago? I only ask here because if you did not get it, then it's likely others did not either.

As I stated in the PM you may or may not have received, among those expressing initial interest, there were two from Iowa City, two from the Quad Cities, one from Cedar Falls, and one from Decorah. For that reason Iowa City seemed to be the most convenient for me.

OK, thanks for letting me know. I guess I'd better try it again. I will be sending a PM to everyone who expressed an interest in Volchonok's introductory thread.

Should be easy enough to include an ex-Iowan. Waterloo is my hometown and I should rightly visit my Mom sometime either around a razor gathering or on the way to or from Iowa City, where I graduated once. Maybe this'll prime the pump for more Minnesotans...

Didn't know you were from Waterloo, Mike! We'd love to have you, I'm sure!

Hey Mike, as a huge fan of the Minnesota meet-up in your shop, are there any plans for a repeat this year? I have no in-law impediments (I hope) this year so I will make every effort to come if there is another one.

I'd like to make sure that there is no conflict with a MN meet-up, but if you come to the Iowa meet-up, that pretty much eliminates any risk of that!
