Well ... my subjective conclusion is that I can get slightly smoother surfaces with my 8k Shapton than with either side of my 12k Chinese.

Let us see what Howard will say when he inspects the Chinese in a couple of weeks. The little Radioshack microscope did not help much. While I can see the grain in the Chinese well, it is hard to see anything on the "white on white" surface of the Shapton.

    Default Try these!

    Hi
I was going for a Chines 12K but opted for a Dragons Tongue from Wales in the UK. Its a great stone, a great price and gives a great finish. Go and try one, you wont be dissappointed.

Hey! Now I know how you get those wicked edges on your blades, ONIMARU55!

I will be sure to order one of these stones to follow up my coticulle!

I purchased mine, lapped it, and soaked it for 30 minutes.

Ran my Dovo and Barnes over it Eastern style and man did that really smooth out the edge.

    Thanks for the info.

I knew you would recognize the razor!

And yes, it is still scary sharp !
I have some other razors that I love, but this is hands down the sharpest and smoothest of all!

I have to get this stone to put the others on the same level

Thaks for the invitation and all...

Glad to hear your enjoying the razor. We aim to please

I think the temper on that one is particularly hard. Took more polishing than most to smooth it out.

Sounds like you're growing a nice rock collection too. It had to happen

    Hey!

The stone arrived 5 days ago, already laped :-).

I have already honed my Kropp, Dovo Classic and Bengall with it right off the cotticule, and the result is the same in all of them: smooth, close, buttery shave and as a result - a smoother skin
And all I did was the basic 100 (Dovo)/150 (Kropp and Bengall) strokes...followed by 30 strokes on a red pasted strop...20 more on a basic smooth strop....and voilá
