Makes sense to me. To be honest once I got to know the hones if I would have stuck with the Norton 4/8 and the Escher blue/green I got right off the bat I would've never needed anything else.

What I'm interested in seeing in myself is if I still have the same amount of passion for hones, honing and razors if I ever get to the point where I feel I've mastered it.

With other pursuits I've had the same passion and curiosity until I got to the point where I felt that I had it down. Then the thrill was gone and it was on to the next big thing.

Slightly but... Speaking of Holy Grails.
Stumbled on this whilst researching buffing compounds.
If any one finds some let me know. Could make for quick restores

To add confusion to the variety, some buffing and polishing compounds are described by different suppliers differently and many different brands are identical for all practical purposes.
To this day I have not found a source for the dark green chrome/diamond super fast cutting compound which was around in sixties in the aircraft industry. It came in bars and 45 gal drums and went on a felt wheels pretty sticky, staying melted on your knife as you worked. This one could whisk away the scratches from 100 grit to a mirror finish on metals in no time flat, no other rouges were required or around. This was the production stuff - hard to imagine polishing 747's one grit at the time.
