    Default Carborundum 101a barber hone

    HI all,
i just recently posted in another section (link below). I was told that a carborundum 101a hone would not be good enough to get a good shave. Is this true, my technique ( if you want to call it that) not being taken into account.
Do real straight razors get as sharp as a shavette?

It's good enough for a good shave - but there are also finer stones out there. In relation to your other post, if you are looking to acheive full glory in your edge then you would most likely pick another finisher.
That Carborundum is a very versitile hone. You can almost do all you need on that thing.
I love living in the past...

I maintained my first razors with nothing but a Swaty and a Carborundum 102 (same grit and binder and effectiveness as the 101a) for well over 10 years. The shaves off of the Carborundum were just fine.

I have a lot of other hones to play with, but those 7 razors continue to be maintained only with barber hones. Yes, I can create a more refined edge with other hones, but I can get very good, irritation free, shaves with nothing but barber hones--including Carborundums.
