Yellow Lake 15"

Here is my latest purchase.

Llyn Melynllyn (Yellow Lake)

Pictured here are images with my DGLP. She has a nice purple color and a more brilliant purple when wet and if one can look closely at it there are small, tiny veins throughout.

The slurry is a deeper purple as seen in the images and the slurry raises relatively fast. This hone feels to be on the softer side when lapping as any blemishes slide off in a few moments.

Every day this place shows me something else I never heard of. So what's Lyn Idwall mean? Is there any history with this stone? Sorry if I'm completely clueless, and asking dumb questions.

I haven't done the official "taste test" yet and there is no chance of it becoming a coaster.

I'm rather excited to give this hone a try as most indicate the Yellow Lake is around 8-9K but the seller claims 12k. *digs through my razor collection for a good tester*

Same area and pretty much a similar hone if you reference areas of the internet. Please forgive me as I have not tried the Lyn Idwall but then again I'm not an expert on hones as others are. It would be nice if a much more knowledgeable person would chime in on the similarities or differences.

Llyn Melynllyn and Llyn Idwal appear to be only about 7km apart but the stones are very different. One is slate the other is novaculite I think.

I know nothing about these stones so here's a dumb question .
Is the purple slurry due to garnets as in the Belgian blues. ?

Sorry in advance. So, which one is "one" and which one is "the other"? I thought slate was bad for razors

Slate hones exist. It's just not advised to hone razors on the slate backing of your coticule.
