This isn't my actual head.
It's a glued combo with a BBW for a backer.

Purplish slurry is a giveaway, the chamfered edges as well.

I Bleed Slurry
Its BBW/coticule combination stone. Some people use the BBW side for honing, in the old days they didn't use it which is why it was used for glued backing. I don't like the BBW sides of the stones but it is all YMMV.

Thanks again ,so i take it from what i read that the newer stones have the slate bases,so this may be an older hone it looks like at some point in its life it was longer one of the ends looks like its been cut not quite as nice a finnish as the other end but i am VERY happy with it been looking at them for a while .

I Bleed Slurry
The Coticules with glued BBW backing are old. They still make Natural bbw/coticule combination stones since the BBW is used for honing now. All the glued ones are to slate.

That isn't a combo, well a natural one at least. That's most likely Old Rock, or "Vintage," if you will, with a glued BBW backing. Nowadays they use slate, which smells like petroleum byproducts.
