    Default Help Id this stone

Some background. Im looking to buy my first honing stone but I'd rather do it locally since where i live custom taxes are nuts. Basically anything over $25 has a 50% tax on it. Tried to get the Norton 4k/8k ones but couldn't find any so far.

I found this , which seems to be Belgian water-stone. Am i correct? I'm going to be picking the stone, is there anything i should be looking for in terms of that would make this stone unusable?

The stone doesn't match the box. The label indicates it used to house a Thuringian/Escher.

    Nice Coticule though.

It has a similar text which can be seen on some of the 5x1" boxed Thuringians/Eschers, it's made in Germany and it has an Escher logo if I'm not mistaken.

Well, im getting this. The fact the its natural and not 2 stones glued together makes me like it more. One newbie question, since i don't owned any other hone(1k grit one) is it possible to set a bewel with the blue side?(provided i speed more time)
My blade has some 0.5mm chipts i want to get ride off.

    Thanks for the help everyone

Different wood used, different size, different hinge, different lock and still can not find the logo.
The stone looks great however it will be tough to set bevel. I would say not worth the effort. Get proper bevel setter. It is money well spent.

J.G. Escher & Sohn. I have a small stash of these little boxed Thuringians and they've come in different coloured boxes, with different clasps and hinges. Look them up and you'll see some of them have labels with a similar text.
