Thread: first j nat /opinions please

Hi this is my first J-nat any ideas on type,quality,any info greatly appreciated.cant give better pics or description because havent got it in my hot little hands yet cheers .

I was in the shed honing razors (lost track of the time) when this ended and I missed out.

Yes it was i didnt put in a high bid for it had to go out and when i got home found i had won it nice little surprise im looking forward to testing her out.

We will need a detailed update on how it hones after you receive the stone. Do you hone regularly and know what to look for or are you new to honing a razor? Japanese stones vary a lot more so than coticules which is huge, so we need to know how it preforms to know what you need to ask for. none the less it is a beautiful stone.

This kind of nakayama ( I think it's karasu nakayama) is supposed to be very fine and very hard, one of the best of its kind. Check for inclusions, and inform us about its performance. If I'm allowed to ask, how much did it cost? 4-digit number?

According to the eBay listing it's not from Nakayama nor is it hard . It's from Hirayama & it's a medium soft uchigumori stone with Karasu colouring. I'm not sure but I think the listing implies it's a prepolisher to be followed up with a harder finisher. You should contact the seller on how he used it & where he would place it in a progression. Uchigumori is a stone not commonly used on razors but more for sword polishing.

That is how the listing describes the stone onimaru i tried doing a search using the key words in the description karasu,hirayama and could not find anything much .I will just have to see how it performs and where it fits into the progression.

The seller is a straight razor user. You could do worse than to ask for his input on usage but experiment by all means. It's a great way to learn.

I will send him a message and see where he would use it ,he does say he used it with razors ,so i will see what he says.
