Thread: Is this a La Veinette Hybrid???

I just got a hybrid coticule in a trade that is not attached to coticule, bbw or slate. Its an 8x2 but raw on the back, with a raw coticule slurry stone of the same kind. I am not sure what kind of hybrid it is but was hoping it was on of the la veinette hybrids. The swirled marble like pattern looks just like a les lat hybrid but is yellow/cream colored like a regular coticule. I have had 5 or 6 les lat hybrids and I am almost positive its not a Les Lat. Anyway, it is extremely hard, the hardest I have ever had by far and almost impossible to raise slurry without using diamond plate. With a slurry it is definately one of the fastest coticules I have ever used and on water it is really really slow. Kinda like a La Veinette on steroids or something. I used it with a slurry and diluted down to almost just water and the edge was came out remarkable on my first test run. I attached a few pics of it with a hybrid les lat and cream side les lat so guys can see what you think it is. It is the lighter colored hybrid, with the darker being the les lat hybrid.

I guess the top layer would dictate which name/layer it belongs to?

I have only one hybrid, a small Les Lat bout, and the marbled side is indeed insanely hard , I spent way more time lapping it than a 8x3" C12K which already is known for being hard as hell.
But the marble side gives me awesome keen and smooth edges, and I bet yours rocks!

I wish it was a combo hybrid like most others instead of being 100% hybrid. That would make it easier to know what it is. Regardless of what layer it is, I love the stone so thats all that really matters. I thought some of you coti heads might like looking at the pictures and trying to identify.

its basicly the hybrid part, with out the yellw side, they are usauly very easy to learn on, and yeild a very keen edge

Just enjoy it for what it is I'd say... Hybrid rocks.
