Default Where is this 20 dollar lapping plate at?

I keep seeing it pop up in people's threads that they bought a DMT 325 lapping plate for 20 bucks, or that you can get one for 20 bucks. While another thread says it costs 320 bucks. So are we all talking about different things here or what? I'm looking over the website and I don't see any 20 dollar lapping plate anywhere. I see a 189 dollar lapping plate, and I see a 130 dollar diamond stone in the 10x4...So what am I doing wrong here? Does somebody have a friend at DMT that's selling these out the back door for 20 bucks or something? I need one big enough to lap a 8x1.5 stone. I'm not interested in buying sandpaper anymore unless it's for scale refurbishing.

So, anyways, where did you buy your lapping plate? And if you don't mind posting a link, I'd be quite grateful.

Don't know where to buy them for $ 20, but here's prob one of the cheapest ways of getting a DMT 325. The very expensive ones are a different kind. There are cheaper lapping plates, but not DMT, that i know of.

Can't say I've ever seen full size DMT325 selling for less than around $45, which is about the going price.

I think I paid for mine around $50 when I bought it 3-4 years ago. It's the 8x3 DMT-C. I bought it along with a DMT-E, and it was a single shipping of about $11-$15 for both (these things are rather heavy).
DMT does not recommend anything but their XX for lapping, however there are hundreds if not thousands of us who've been using the DMT-C. As long as you're not lapping huge amount of barber hones or that really hard arkansas stone the DMT-C is good.

I've seen cheaper diamond plates for sale at sporting goods and kitchen stores, but they are not flat.

I have a 6" DMT 325 plate, and use it for lapping my full-size Norton and other larger hones. I have no problem using the smaller plate on those larger hones.

I have never seen a full size 325 for 20 bucks, are you sure you are not talking about smaller size one?

    Thanks all!

Mainaman: I'm not sure at all. I was wondering if I was misunderstanding what I was reading. Most of the posts will just say "my DMT 325". But there are about 10 different things called a DMT 325 on the site. Then I found a post that said it was 4x10, so I looked at the two that are DMT 325's in that size...And they were both for somebody running a business I guess(big money). Anyhow, I got a link..I'm happy. I'll get it there. Thanks again to all.
