Thread: My new honing tool (loupe)

I just got my first loupe and wow it is a nice one. I got mine off of the bay and I remember people saying it's hit and miss which ones are nice ones. But this one is just great, made from real stainless steel and real optical glass. With the naked eye in a bright light your edge can look polished to a mirror finish but under the magnification of the loupe I could totally see a scratch pattern. So you could say having a nice loupe is a real eye opener for me. I absolutely love this loupe and it was only 1.86. Very clear image, and a tool I really needed.

Very nice looking piece of glass!! It sure makes a difference when you can really see what's actually going on with the edge! Enjoy it, and good edges and shaves.

How much $$$ did you pay for it?

Thanks for the tip! I just went to sleaze bay and paid 4.10 (shipping included).Did you see the mini 60 x with led light? I picked up one of those too... For $ 1.00 with $6.00 shipping.

Congrats on your purchase. I find loupes indispensable.
Just be careful not to touch the blade edge against the steel body.
Plastic bodied ones can offer a tiny safety margin.

Especially when you first start out honing and are trying to figure out whats going on with the bevel and smoothness of the edge.

I have a cheap plastic one from radioshack and I love it. I just takes me forever to hone now tho
