Thread: Natural stone identification!!

This stone i started lapping not quite done little more on the ends but anyways its a very hard stone, allready spent a lot of time lapping im thinking Llynn idwal? what do you think?The slurry is milky white and not easily made for sure!!So far looks very promising smooth as glass!!

It'a not Llyn idwal. Could be a Everkeen hone, but I'm not sure. It's a slate type definitely. not Llyn idwal or Charnley or any novaculite type stones.

Well, I'm sorry for my misspelling errors. But, share your knowledge with us. I know you re one of the most experienced members here.

I think it could be a Llyn Idwal as well, the colour is very uniform and it has flaking.

Don't get me wrong - it's nothing to do with spelling!

What I mean is that you have categorically dismissed the stone as LI, then gone on to say that it isn't a novaculite. Why?

The color is just too uniform for it to be an Idwal, I have never seen novaculite type stones (accept for Arkansas) with so uniform color that I would be surprised if it was one. Yes, this kind of flaking is characteristic for novaculite type stones, it is long sized, that usually means slow, again characteristic shape for LIs and Charnleys. Usually when we say it's a hard hone, we mean the stone doesn't produce slurry while honing. LI stones are glass hard. So, I'm sorry if I misled you Martin103. It could be an Idwal.

Vasilis you didnt misled me at all,if i knew what the stone was for sure i wouldnt post asking about it, it just seemed possible to me that it could be a LI with the research i did here and beyound.

I think it's a LI. Pretty positive that it is.
