Thread: Broken Norton 4k/8k from Amazon

I purchased the aforementioned waterstone from Amazon; great price at ~$70. It arrived with some high grit auto sandpaper and the blue Norton case was shattered to pieces and the stone itself had a huge chunk taken out of the corner. Luckily Amazon has an excellent return policy and as a Prime member, I should have a replacement in a day or two.

Anyone else have bad luck with shipping stones?

My first 3/8k naniwa arrived in two pieces from a ember. Sadly I couldn't get a new one, so I glued it together, and happily use it since then

I got my Nortons a few years ago, and I think I got them at Amazon as well, but they came intact luckily!

I think most of the other sellers do a pretty good job packaging them to prevent breakage. Maybe the carrier decided to play soccer with your order :P

I've not had a problem with stones, but I got a lathe that someone tied to the rear bumper of the truck and drove accross the parking lot, and once shipped an enlarger that was obviously used as a pinata before delivery.

Based on those two experiences I always insure everything when getting it shipped.

I am fortunate to say that I have never had a problem with that.

Yeah I seen Nortons 4/8s for close to the same price but they had inclusions on Amazon so yeah.

Cheapest place I could find them from a reputable woodworking store.

I received the replacement from Amazon today and it is in great shape. Definitely a better ideal to buy local or from a small reputable company, but I have a hard time not taking advantage of Prime membership and free 2 day shipping. Besides, Home Depot is probably the only "local" store that would have these and at twice the price.

I wonder why the 220/1000 combo is cheaper than just the 1000?
