Pinkish Coti off eeBay
hi there fellas,
i have some questions about this coti..the seller stated the stone was a pinkish color..would this mean more garnets?, faster cutter?..and another...on the stones which are glued together., is slate the stuff which its glued to?not really used for honing prior to the coti side? or is that stone actually a combo coti/bbw where the bbw can be used?
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
couldnt really tell on the color from those original pics

Pink coti on slate, a little more rare, very good cutter.

Hell Razor
Pink cot's are usually fast cutters.
That one looks like a Dressante, IIRC. It's a really good vein....

how would someone evaluate these stones? color? size? 6x2x1 by the way, combintaion of bbw? again havent come accross much on the color of these stones..is it possible to see the amount of garnets on these under a mic to come to a conclusion?
in other words., whats makes a coti a keeper?

As far as I've seen, I've had similar results from 3 different coticules. I know over on coticule.be most people said that there is no real difference in the final product; it's just how you get there (as in some will be slower or faster with slurry, and some will be slower or faster on pure water for polishing).
Unfortunately, the only way to tell is to try it out, or buy from a trusted source (and unless it has been personally tested then you still can't be sure exactly how it will perform). I'd say the classifieds here, Thesuperiorshave.com or direct from ardennes (specify that the coticule will be used for razors) are good choices.
Rest assured though, if you go through a good source and you have enough patience to learn how to properly use the stone, you should be just fine.

sweet., thanks you guys...while waiting on a response i've caught up on a few other threads regarding cotis...
like Tlittle said, wait n try it myself see how it goes...i've been honing a few razors over a year n a half now using only a c12k n a very old shapleigh diamond barber hone as finishers. good strop n so passing the hht, great shaves yada yada
just wanted a lil more info as to what makes the coti such a sought after stone.. like they say, different strokes for different folks
i'll keep you fellas updated on this one..want to see how it compares to these last stated hones
thanks again
ps. has anyone alredy compared this to a decent c12k stone or a similar barber hone?
