I have been shaving with a straight about as long as you have and had the same decision to make as you do now. I took a middle of the road approach because I really did not know in what direction I would go with honing in the future and had some old blades that needed the edge reset. I got a Naniwa 3000/8000 combo stone and a balsa strop pasted with CrOx. That worked well for resetting the edges on the old blades and also worked to keep previously pro honed blades touched up.

I liked honing so I added a DMT 320, Naniwa 1000 and 12000 stones to round it out and to be able to bring back really bad blades.

Looking at it now from the POV of only wanting to maintain a previously pro honed blade I might be inclined to just get a finishing hone, like the Naniwa 12000, and a pasted balsa strop. I could shave well off the Naniwa 8000 and pasted strop but adding the Naniwa 12000 raised the smoothness of the shave up a notch.

Just a real rookies experience so don't put a lot of weight to it.

+1 you may have to go through a few Baber Homes before you find the Right one for you, but it's worth it.

I think I will go with a naniwa 12k. Should i get a DMT with that too for lapping?

You just might talk one of us into lapping it for you. It should go a very long time without needing to be relapped and by then you will have sorted out your own preferences somewhat more than now.
    YMMV
    It just keeps getting better

Very true Glen and you as well as a few others here have licked every piece in the store.

Great primer on stones and pastes. How about doing one on films....?
