Thread: Who uses slurry on their Escher/Thuringian?

For those who do, how thick do you make it, how many strokes do you typically use, do you dilute at all, and do you do any finishing on plain water?

I'm thinking of borrowing my barber's stones again & want to try out some different techniques on them. I used plain water before on these & the shaves were good, but not what everybody talks about these stones doing.

I do use slurry on them always. I dilute in the same fashion as the dulicot method. How many strokes depends on how the TPT and HHT is working. Sometimes more sometimes less. I start with a fairly thick, not like mud, but cloudy slurry and thin out from there. I don't begin on the escher/thuringan until the blade is already basically shaving sharp though. Not necessarily the 'right' way, just what I do.

I use mine the same way Jimmy does.

Pretty much exactly the same answer as JimmyHAD. I start with fairly thin slurry, like diluted skimmed milk I suppose. I wouldn't like to give a figure for the number of laps, but it tends to be a lot.

I don't slurry on mine - maybe I'm just lazy, but I like the results I get.

I always start with a slurry on nat stones and then dilute as I go along.

+1 on Jimmy's method ....since I got mine from him and that's what he recommended, I've been doing it his way and it works wonders...Slight slurry with dulicot dilution method and water at the end...smoooooth as butter. I am already getting to a point where I can start noticing some differences between Nani 8/12K and the Escher

I used my Escher today as a stepping stone between a Nani 8K and a Charnley. I used a light slurry and diluted it after 20 laps and did 10, then 10 with plain water.

Seems like I have to try slurry then! I think I'll borrow the big one from my barber tomorrow. I'll try both dilution & finishing on light slurry. (Doesn't Sham do it that way?)

Bladerunner: I'm guessing the Escher feels smoother; which edge feels sharper to you (in terms of beard cutting)?

I believe someone recently posted that Lynn has stopped using slurry on the Escher/Thuringian stones. Can't remember who posted that.

I start out with a very light slurry and I am down to clear water in about 20 to 35 laps. Another 20 on clear water usually does it........
